With January (finally) over and done with, it seems that spring is just around the corner (if you squint… okay it’s still nowhere in sight). The good news is that there are some seriously decent films due to be released this month, so head to the cinema or log onto Netflix, go overboard on the snacks and forget all about the freezing temperatures outside.
Black Panther

Set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Marvel’s Black Panther explores the origins of world-class warrior T’Challa in his standalone debut. T’Challa is the king of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, and the film follows his trials and tribulations as he runs the country and battles enemies like Erik “Killmonger” Stevens.
Gringo
Starring: David Oyelowo, Charlize Theron, Joel Edgerton
Release date: 9th March
This dark comedy is packed full of action, and tells the story of businessman Harold Soyinka, as he delves deeper into the world of organised crime. This film is not to be missed if you’re a fan of brilliant comedic timing mixed with a killer plotline.
You Were Never Really Here
Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Dante Pereira-Olson, Larry Canady
Release date: 9th March
This psychological thriller follows the tale of a veteran suffering from PTSD and his vigilante-style living of tracking down missing girls and returning them to their families. However, it’s only a matter of time before his nightmares overtake him, and the line between conspiracy and fantasy become blurred.
Tomb Raider
Starring: Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Walton Goggins
Release date: 16th March
The latest offering from the Tomb Raider franchise follows the first expedition of Lara Croft, as she travels to the island where her archeologist father disappeared. Watch as she’s pushed far beyond her limits to uncover the truth and save her family’s reputation.
Pacific Rim Uprising
Starring: Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona, Tian Jing
Release date: 23rd March
The sequel to 2013’s Pacific Rim, the film is set 10 years after the Battle of the Breach. The Breach, an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, has been reopened, causing chaos for humanity. The heroes must battle aliens and machines to save the human race from extinction.
Ready Player One
Starring: Letitia Wright, Hannah John-Kamen, McKenna Grace
Release date: 29th March
In the year 2045, humanity is living in a slum-like state, due to overcrowding, climate change and pollution. The one thing keeping many people from losing the will to live is the virtual reality world, OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation). The recently-deceased creator of OASIS, James Halliday, has set up an in-game easter egg, the finder of which is rewarded with full ownership of the VR world, as well as his $500 million fortune. The race is on.
